In the last few weeks have hit the gym again for the first time in a while. I'm worse than ever at weights but am determined if possible to get stronger and put on what muscle that I can.

Anyway after turning 45 a few days ago I realise it's getting more and more difficult all the time to create muscle so I plan on getting some protein powder, there's such a myriad of options out there that it's bewildering, any recommendations on what one(s) to go for and is there anything specifically a middle-aged guy ought to do to help his chances of gaining strength?

Thanks for any tips.

Train hard but take into account your recovery and speed of progress won't be as good as it once was. Build up progressively. Focus on the big compound lifts as the core of your workout to build functional strength. Isolation and accessory work if you have particular weaknesses you want or need to address.

    Protein powder:
First set a sensible daily protein goal.
Then try and meet it through your normal diet and food choices.
If you aren't hitting your goal then think of supplementing, choose one you like the taste of.

Protein timing has very little significance compared to hitting your goal consistently.

Try NOW SPORTS Natural Unflavored Whey isolate. Add blueberries, and stevia to flavor to taste.
