Half Marathon

I have a half marathon coming up in 12 weeks; it's my second one. Last year I didn't really train for it, so this year I want to put in the adequate training and improve on my time from last year. I'm curious to see... Do you guys typically do shorter runs throughout the week and then a long run once per week? Incorporate hills? Focus on pace some days and distance other days? I typically run about 4 miles during the week and then was going to do my longer runs on the weekends, increasing the mileage each week. Thanks for any input !
