Too much cardio?

My daily goal is 1800 calories, but I often go over on weekends. Is it ok for me to let's say eat 3000 calories and make it up by doing a ton of cardio? Example - I'm planning on pigging out tomorrow at a super bowl party..is there any problem if I do like 2 hours of cardio and then pig out at the party?

Yeh - you'll lose muscle and gain fat.

well, there's not necessarily anything WRONG with it - but if this "often go over on weekends" is a regular occurrence you might want to consider calorie cycling instead. Eat a little less during the week, maybe 1600/day, and "bank" the extra so that when your weekend comes around you have an extra 1000 calories to play with, without being over budget from a week-long perspective.

It's okay occasionally, but don't make it a habit, because then it becomes a restrict the binge cycle. Look at it as in gonna enjoy myself tomorrow then work my a** off in the gym or cardio from those extra cals and energy

Yes! Exercising to "burn calories" is a lousy idea, IMO. Just don't eat them in the first place. Or consider yourself eating in advance. You're eating extra on Sunday so you don't have to eat so much on Monday. Exercise to be healthy.

Once in a while it's probably ok, but it's not a habit you want develop.

Yeah you can do that. But instead, consider how much more you would benefit by spending time lifting. :)

always take from the past, not the future ;)

i bank calories and get in extra workouts all the time (mostly to 'pay' for my weekend alcohol) and lose consistently. But I can tell you this morning, between going out last night and TOM headed this way, I am retaining water and the scale is up 3 pounds. its not real weight, and will fall off, but you need to be aware of your body and how it reacts to those fluctuations and be in a place where those fluctuations dont bother you. I've been ddoing this a long time now and am down 80 pounds. it doesnt bother me, because i know my body. a lot of people, especially ones who are new to this, have a hard time dealing with it

I don't have a big issue with the method proposed, but I do want to point out that 2 hours of cardio is only going to provide me with about 1000 calories to play with - not 3k.

2 hours of hard cardio might get me 1000 calories too. But he only needs 3000 calories less 1800 calories. HOWEVER,

You cannot really exercise off bad eating days.. Sorry about that.. But you can try to plan for it by eating a wee bit less during the week and trying to bank some.

It is ok to indulge on Sunday and not do anything about it. But the next weekend, and the next one, of doing this is going to derail your goals.

I'm still not convinced that you *can't* outrun your fork, but I am convinced that it's more trouble than it's worth. It takes more training to get to a useful level than you might expect, and the benefits aren't great enough.

So I woke up on Super Bowl Sunday and the thought of doing 2 hours of cardio (I hate cardio - prefer lifting weights) just seemed awful. I decided to do my normal weight lifting and stayed within my calorie goal for the day. I think it was better overall. The more I think about it, I realize binge eating just isn't worth it. I could easily binge eat 5,000 calories in 1 meal and still be hungry. That's A LOT of exercise to burn that off. Thanks for the tips everyone

2 hours of cardio isn't a "ton of cardio". :)

I spent 5 hours on the treadmill (24 miles, woo!) on Saturday, so I kind of agree, but it can still be daunting when you're contemplating the whole 120 minutes from 30 seconds in...
