Whey Protein Shake Weight loss?

I have been reading about protein shakes. I am working out daily, will it effect me gaining or losing weight? My goal is to lose and gain muscle. What brand would you recommend and kind.

Protein shakes don't make you lose weight or gain weight. They are just another source of protein/calories. I've used GNC's basic chocolate powder (not sure what they call it) and Optimum Nutrition's vanilla ice cream flavor and liked both.

    This.

You gain by eating more calories than maintaince. You lose by eating less. Protein shakes can be used in both circumstances. They are simply a convenient (and sometimes cheaper) way of hitting protein targets which is important in both weight loss and weight gain (when you are trying to add muscle).

Also, protein can be satiating so people often use them for that reason as well while losing weight.

It's all about daily calories. That's why this place works. Protein helps me feel full. But often I rather eat a boiled egg, some grilled chicken, or even drinking a simple glass of skim milk with some almonds.

A protein shake after lunch helps to stave off afternoon cravings, which is When they're the worst for me. In that way they help with weight loss. But they don't "cause" me to lose weight by themselves. I like Pure Protein French vanilla with banana or berries blended in.

I have taken protein shakes for years I have them for breakfast. When I was working out with a personal trainer and being that I am a vegetarian, I needed to be sure I was getting enough protein grams and protein shakes are good for that especially when you seek out organic protein shakes that's not loaded with junk. I ran across one called Orgain that was created by a physician who had cancer that became so discouraged with all ingredients in protein shakes that he and his wife who is a registered dietitian created their own brand of plant-based protein shake powder and drinks. It comes in vanilla bean, chocolate, coffee, and strawberry flavors. It is the best I have ever tried, sweetened with organic Stevia. +25 healthy grams of protein per shake. I have one every morning typically and I love them and kiss me off to a great start you can find them.
