Is stevia safe for diabetics?

I am not diabetic, but need to be on a diabetic's diet the next month, as I will be on a large dosage of oral steroids. I am familiar with dietary restrictions for diabetes, but one thing that has changed since the last time I did this, is that I am into the habit of drinking a few servings of soda sweetened with stevia per week (because I actually like the taste, not because of dietary restrictions). I forgot to ask the dr if stevia is ok or not. I am guessing that yes, but does anyone know for sure?

Yes. It's okay. It's so much sweeter than sugar that they use a very small amount of it to sweeten these drinks, not enough to produce a diabetic sugar spike.0
