*Poof*... I'm a sammich!

Seriously though. I love sandwiches, but I want to reduce carbs. I'd love some suggestions for making yummy, nutritious, low(er) carb sandwiches. Any ideas?

Use one piece of bread instead of two. Use lettuce/collard greens to wrap sandwich fillings. Use a reduced-carbohydrate wrap instead of regular bread/wrap. Make a sandwich bowl (toss typical sandwich fillings with greens).

How well these will work will depend on exactly what it is you love about sandwiches.

Bread made from flour makes me sleepy, so I buy that made from sprouted grains like Food for Life or Alvarado St Bakery. I also find this more filling than bread made from flour.

Make your sammich in a giant piece of lettuce or low carb wrap.

I like to make McFoldys. 1 piece of bread, make your sandwich open face on it (dont use a lot of crap) then fold it in half and enjoy! Its like a mini sub without all the crust :D

Of course it matters what it is about the sandwich you "love". Could very well be all those carbs in that wonderfully sinful bread that you crave so dearly.
Low calorie Tortillas and make wraps.
    Lettuce wraps, as suggested above.
Just use your sandwich stuffings as a salad/platter.

I like sandwiches because of their flavor but also because of their convenience. I wish I could thumbs-up all of these responses. Definitely good ideas.

    Dagwood sandwich.

Pretty low carb, relative to everything in there.

There are a lot of tasty alternatives to sandwiches... I love low carb tortillas, for example.

But if it's a sandwich you're after, it's just not going to be satisfying, IMO. I just make sure to use the tastier bread I can find (homemade now), use thin slices, and use a lot of protein.

    When I want a sammich, I want a SAMMICH!
I just eat less of it. Half a sandwich is better than no sandwich at all, so if I'm at home and have everything here, that's what I do. One slice of good whole-grain bread, 1 tsp of organic mayo (that's right, I'm a wild woman!) chicken breast, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce... Just half of what I used to eat for lunch every day (and of course minus the chips, cookie and soda. Some days I miss the chips; the cookie and soda not so much.

The biggest problem is that since I'm the only one left in this house who can eat bread, it's a waste to buy a whole loaf of bread. These days, I usually just wait until I go out somewhere for lunch and order it. Most menus have 'half sandwich with soup or salad'.
