Starving after working out

Hi all! I am 5'8" with a small frame. Currently my weight is 143. 135 is a weight that I'm the most happy with for my frame. Trouble is, when I work out, I turn into a ravenous monster at the end of the day. I am out-eating my hard work!

Is your calorie goal from MFP? If so, are you eating back at least some of your exercise calories?

How many calories are you eating and how many are you supposed to be eating?

You might want to revisit your goals and make sure you're eating sufficiently for your activity. It's normal to be hungry after working out...and it's normal to eat after working out...you should be able to accomplish that without undoing all of your hard work...in fact, eating is pretty important to recovery.

    Fit people eat and train...

If you're really hungry after a workout, I suggest you eat something.

What can I say? I have pretty radical ideas.

    1. What's your daily calorie goal?
    2. What is your carb/protein/fats/sugar breakdown? (ie: are you getting enough protein?)
    3. What time of day do you eat vs. workout?
    4. How long and intense are your workouts, and are you letting yourself eat back 10-30% of those calories?

Do you eat before your workout? I usually eat 1/2 hour to an hour before I hit the gym and then have a protein shake afterward.

i have a small breakfast, workout and then an early (usually big) lunch. today i had a big breakfast, but it was after my workout, and then a really light lunch.

make your food work with your calorie goals and when you are hungry.

What do you do during your workout? I get it too when I do a long run but it has gotten a lot better over time. I just try to time the run that I can have a big and filling meal almost immediately afterwards and then I'm ok most of the time. Also I make it really filling, such as oatmeal and greek yogurt or whatever works for you.
And I eat most of my exercise calories back, hasn't stopped me from losing weight.

Yep! That's the only problem with exercise - it increases appetite! Don't overdo the exercise. More is NOT better!

I'm assuming you are working out in the morning? I try to get in a bit of protein and a piece of fruit beforehand so I'm not as ravenous. It seems to help me out in my post recovery.

I eat 1/3rd or less of my total calories during the day and save the rest for dinner. It is when I am the most hungry.

I know this sounds silly, but make sure you are properly hydrated. Dehydration symptoms can mimic 'hunger' because food has water in it so the body wins either way.
