Gain on second WI normal?

Last week, I finished my first 7 days using MFP while doing phase 1 of south beach. I lost 8 lbs which surprised even me. This week I gained a pound back after adding carbs back into the diet. I am not discouraged, but I want to know if that is pretty normal considering the extreme diet I was on during my first week.

You probably didn't gain a pound of fat if you are sticking to your calorie deficit. Water retention is often the reason for fluctuating weight. Just wait a while before weighing yourself again. Take body measurements and look for inches lost. That is a better indicator of success.0

That's an encouraging thought! My husband did notice my jeans were lose about about an inchof fabric right across the thighs where it had been super tight before. I guess I better get out the measuring tape so I can track those other inches!0
