South Louisiana Urged to Take a Sip on the Lighter Side
CC’s Community Coffee House® and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Partner to Promote Guilt-Free Living

Wednesday, January 06, 2010- BATON ROUGE, La. -- CC’s Community Coffee House® and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana are teaming up to encourage South Louisiana to start 2010 on a healthier footing, with a Guilt-Free guide, guilt-free versions of CC’s customer favorites and the chance to win valuable prizes.
CC’s is offering diet-friendly pastries and beverages -- ideal for those who want something sweet but without the extra fat and calories. The beverages are crafted with skim milk, and the products are made with sugar-free flavoring.

Products featured in the Guilt-Free line include: Guilt-Free Latte, Guilt-Free Mocha, Guilt-Free Hot Chocolate, Coffee, Guilt-Free Plain Mochasippi®, Guilt-Free Hazelnut Mochasippi®, Guilt-Free Vanilla Mochasippi®, Yogurt Parfait and Low-Fat Blueberry Muffin. They are available at all 34 of the CC’s locations.

The products are featured in a brochure about healthier living that is being mailed to residents in the areas where the coffeehouses are located. The brochure includes nutritional and exercise tips (see below), coupons for CC’s Guilt-Free products and an entry form for the Guilt-Free sweepstakes.

“We’ve taken some of our best sellers and made them lighter. But just about every beverage at CC’s can be made guilt-free every day with some slight alterations. CC’s baristas can offer suggestions. What’s important is to have healthier options that taste great. We are pleased to work again with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in this effort,” said Celton Hayden, General Manager of Retail Operations for CC’s Community Coffee House.

Beginning January 11, customers can register in stores or on CommunityCoffee.com for the Guilt-Free sweepstakes. The first prize is a Vision T9200 Treadmill (valued at $1,499), and the second prize is a CC’s Community Coffee House Gift Card (a $250 value).

Exercise and good nutrition play a major role in good health and are the focus of The Louisiana 2 Step, a program of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. The Louisiana 2 Step is a fun, free program designed to motivate people to take two simple steps to better health: eat right and move more. Through the program’s interactive website at Louisiana2Step.com, people can access tools and information they need to live healthier lives.

“We are very pleased to join with CC’s again this year to promote healthier lifestyle choices in Louisiana,” said Blue Cross spokesman John Maginnis. “Obesity is a major problem in our state, and partnering with another Louisiana company to help fight it is such a great opportunity. Together we can inspire Louisianians of all ages to Do the 2 — eat right and move more.”

Tips for a Healthier Lifestyle from Louisiana2Step.com

•Select foods with protein, such as meat, beans, eggs, fish and dairy products to get the 15 to 20 percent your body needs each day for a healthy immune system.

•It takes 21 days to form a habit – so exercise every day for 21 days (with one day or two days off if you need it) to help establish exercise as a priority in your health lifestyle.

•Protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water are the six major classes of nutrients your body needs. Make sure your diet provides you with these for a healthy lifestyle.

•Do a variety of physical activities and choose up to three that you enjoy. Variety helps decrease boredom and reduce injuries.

•Fat is essential in helping protect your organs. Choose modest amounts of good fats found in nuts, oils, seeds, avocadoes and plant sources.

•Organize your day so that you exercise early in the day or schedule it firmly into your routine. Making a written appointment to yourself will help you stick with it.

•Walking one mile burns about 100 calories – and 2,000 steps equal one mile. Use a pedometer to count your steps, and try increasing your count each day to burn extra calories.

•Drink at least eight cups of water each day to help regulate your body’s temperature and remain hydrated. Drink more when you exercise, and when on the go, try a Community Water, available at any CC’s Community Coffee House location.

•Scientific studies suggest that consuming the equivalent of 2 cups of coffee about an hour before your workout may benefit you in a number of ways. It may help you stay hydrated. It may help increase stamina. And it may help reduce the muscle pain associated with some types of exercise
