I have palpatations in the form of pvc's. I have to take meds and I was diagnosed with dysautonomia in 2008 and recently had to undergo cardiac ablation for AVNRT. I've also had an episode of ventricular tachycardia when in hospital, so I think it depends on how many you have. A couple of missed beats is no big deal, or if you have palpitations with no symptoms, it's considered benign.

Something sounds a little off, have you had a holter monitor, 30 day monitor, or anything like that? No one knew I had AVNRT until I had a loop recorder implanted in October and I've have numberous holters/ekg's/30 day monitors, so maybe you need more extensive monitoring if this continues to be an issue. Or a new doctor.

I was coming on to say something similar. I had a tachycardia - my heart would all of a sudden start racing. My dr too said "benign" but one year, I decided to get serious about getting to the bottom of it. I got a heart dr, they outfitted me with a loop recorder - b/c yes, holters wouldn't ever catch it as the events were infrequent.

When they noticed an event where my heart got up to 239 beats per minute for about 20-30 minutes, the heart dr told me I could have an ablation to correct the issue. Although that sounded scary, it ended up being no problem at all. That was about 3 years ago now and I've not had ONE episode. I've resumed running - up to half marathons, training for a full in the fall, and done several all-out 5Ks, NO issues. It might be worth pursuing. I'm so glad I did.

Like you, I'd looked at nutrition stuff, hormonal imbalances - but turns out there was a very PHYSICAL reason for the condition - one that nutrition might have helped, but definitely not cured. Surgery was the cure.

I also had an ablation like the previous poster. Some arythmias are caused by minor heart abnormalities - it was the best decision ever and I wish I had done it sooner. I spent 23 years dealing with these - had the ablation almost 3 years ago after episodes got worse and I had to go to hospital and/or take medication to stop them. A cardiologist could help you figure this out.

I agree a cardiologist would be best. dont fool around get an appt asap. heart palpitations can mean anything and if you are dizzy and have other issues as well its definitely time to get a diagnoses.heart conditions can mimic many other health issues.

I had my ablation two days before Thanksgiving. The recovery SUCKED. Chest pain from the ablation, fatigue from the procedure, being nauseous from the anesthesia and constantly bleeding at the catheter site in my groin [nurses had to put sandbags on it], and of course, having to lay completely still for six hours afterward. But I am too glad I had it done even though the doctor told me he could only ablate a small part of the pathway, he said I'd have a heart block and need a pacemaker if he fully ablated the accessory pathway.

Its been a while since I posted on here. This is going to be way too much information. I just wanted to update what I have noticed. I notice the palpitations more when I am tired or stressed. Also I have noticed just like last month and this month I start having them a week or so before my period. And the worst day is the day I start. This month was the worst one I have ever had. I was dizzy on the first day and light headed. And just tired. I have also noticed in the last 6 months or so they have gotten heavier and more painful. So I think I may need to go see and OB doctor to find out what is going on. Before I got pregnant with my second one the dr said I looked like I had endrometrosis. At that time I was having the same symptoms with a blood pressure drop when I started.

In the nicest possible way: stop self diagnosing and go see a dr. I have palpitations that I foolishly attributed to anxiety, because obviously they happen more when I am stressed. Turns out it is mitral valve prolapse. I have had dizziness and feeling light headed and it happened more during my periods. It was not anemia or anything caused by my period, it was B12 deficiency. The symptoms you describe, a hundred different illnesses could be causing them. Talk to your dr, he/she knows what to test for.

I too have MVP and MVR and although I didnt have the dizziness or the anxiety that can come with that. I did have the out of breath feeling(thought it was my asthma) and now from time to time my heart will beat funny but they really arent what you call palpitations. I also get a pain under my left arm from it from time to time. so yes,The OP needs to be seen asap. I thought I was having slight heart attacks, turns out I wasnt thankfully. The B12 deficiency could have been why you were dizzy and lightheaded too.

I started having palpitations when I was 21 or 22. Around that time I was diagnosed with an ulcer and I started taking tagament. I would get week and tired easily. After I got better from the ulcer and off the medicine I was ok for a while then I started again when I had my first son. I was diagnosed with low iron and was on iron and they stopped again. When I was around 28 I started taking birth control and they started again. My iron was low again. So I stop the bc and they stopped. Last fall I was put on another PPI for GERD. Within a week my palpitations started again. The were especially bad when I got upset. Finally I started seeing a heart doctor. He did a bunch of test including a heart monitor and an ultrasound. Everything came up fine. He said it was begnign but if I have more problems which I have been he will put me on the month long holter. I just need to call him today and get in to the appointment. It takes a week or so to get in to his office. In the mean time I will get my blood work and other things needed. I refuse to think the worst because as someone with severe anxiety my mind tries to go in that direction. I understand everyone is trying to help and really thank you for your suggestions. I just want you to know I do try to get all the stuff done I can. I am so tired of drs office visits and stuff. I am at the drs for myself at least once a month.

It could be the PPI causing the palpitations.I had to get off mine because they were causing me many health issues. I dont have them now since I stopped.

I also have SVT and attempted ablation. Unfortunately once they got in, the abnormality was too close to the AV Node and they did not complete the ablation. Following that, I lost a bunch of weight and my SVT rarely bothers me anymore. In fact, I was able to cease taking Atenolol altogether.

When my SVT acts up now, I do a simple exercise to bring it under control - simply bear down as if you are having a bowel movement. My cardiologist told me about this little trick years ago and it works like a charm.

Also take it easy on the caffeine.
