I thought I could gain some steps when grocery shopping, but that is not the case!
The Garmin step counter does not register steps while I am in the grocery store! Can someone tell me why?

Is it a wrist band and are you pushing a cart therefore not swinging your arm when you walk?

My Fitbit doesn't count steps when I'm pushing a cart, because my arm doesn't move or even jolt the way it should. Try putting it in your pocket instead. It won't be as accurate as normal, but it will be much better.

My Garmin vivosmart does not Count steps when my hand is on the pushing cart... it will not Count excercise on the bike (unless you buy a speedsensor) ... so armmovement is a factor in steps for the garmindevices.
I don´t mind... I don´t think we use many steps in the grocerystore.

You may also try placing your device on your ankle instead of your wrist. I don't have a problem when grocery shopping, either way.

I carry my groceries in recycle bags as I shop. That way my steps are counted and I get a little arm work in

What she said. You can put it in your pocket, put it around your belt/loop, or attach it to you shoe. I put it in my pocket as it's easy and I feel better keeping it safe in my pocket.
