Exercise credit

I am a limited mobility exerciser. I've been on crutches since last July. Just today I found a great seated exercise workout video on youtube and I had to break it down and log it under Strength training because I couldn't estimate what it would be under cardio. What I would like to suggest is that we get exercise credit for the strength training as well as the cardio. I am not able to walk around the block. I will never be able to log in cardio minutes and under the current system I will never be able to get exercise credit and it will look like I'm a fat lump because I get a big 0 when it comes to exercise. It's not a great motivator. I found that video and decided to go ahead and do it instead of just watch it and I worked my butt off for the first time in months and I would really like a little bit of credit for that even if it's a 1 or 2 under exercise, at least it will mean that I've done something. I feel discriminated against because I'm mobility limited. It's like trying to find a handicapped parking place and finding that all of them are filled. I thank you for your consideration. I would like to hear how this turns out if there is any action on it one way or the other. Thank you.

Hi - I realize this is confusing, but the Strength Training part of your Exercise page is just for making notes. I log Strength Training under Cardio using the option Weight training, free weights. But perhaps Calisthenics, home, light/moderate effort would be more appropriate for what you are doing?

The name of the activity is not the important part, it is the metabolic equivalent of tasks (METs) that provides an estimate for Calories burned per minute. I would suggest you use one of the pre-loaded cardiovascular exercises in the Exercise Database to get an estimate for Calories burned based on your level of intensity.

Most online activity calculators use the published metabolic equivalent of tasks (METs) values that provide an estimate for Calories burned per minute, which are estimates for a general population and may differ for you as an individual based on your level of intensity. MFP generally uses the 2011 METs values compiled in the Compendium of Physical Activities.

    METs - Activity
    2.5 - Stretching, hatha yoga
    2.5 - Yoga
2.5 - Cleaning, light, moderate effort
3.0 - Strength training (weight lifting, weight training)
    3.5 - Calisthenics, home, light/moderate effort
3.5 - Rowing, stationary, light effort

Excellent information both of you! I feel like I can proceed with a more informed way of how to log in exercise. You guys are great! Best thing I've heard all day.... yeah, it's been one of those, but not anymore :)
