how to measure food

My boyfriend is great support he measures and weighs everything for me. The only problem is he makes huge pots of everything and mixes all the food together. How do you count the calories.

I use the recipe builder. Ask him to be mindful of how much he's making and what's going into the pot and then enter it into the recipe builder. It's very convenient for bulk cooking!

Recipe builder, and be sure to weigh the final total weight of the finished product.

I make lots of crock pots and soups and cassroles. Just takes a minute to weigh the empty pot or casserole dish before cooking and then full after wards and subtract.

For convenience I make 100 grams my standard portion size. If there are 1231 grams in a finished dish, I'll use round up and use "13" as the total number of servings in the recipe builder. Then, if I take a portion that weighs 250 grams, I count that as 2.5 servings.

The recipe builder on MFP is awesomeness!
Oooh! I like the 100 grams serving idea- Might have to try that. I've been trying to do it afterwards, when we sit down at the table.

When my husband cooks, I observe, then dish out my portion, usually less than I really want, then find something similar in the database to log. Not exact, I know, but he's cooking! Who am I to complain he didn't measure precisely? I'll cook tomorrow.

When I make something that is mixed, like soup or stir fry, I try to stir it right before spooning it out so I have a random mix. I also do this before my family members cherry pick all their favorite ingredients out off the mix and throw off the ingredient balance.
