MFP's carb and protein settings seem insane to me.

I mainly pay attention to calories, and ignore the other categories. But I have noticed that I'm almost always way above my protein limits, and far from meeting my carb limits. And I'm not on a low carb diet. Crap! Today, I ate a breakfast sandwich on a muffin, then a donut that was offered to me, then went to a Mexican restaurant and ate tortilla chips and fish tacos. I'm still way below my carb limit of 217. But I'm above my protein. Now, today was far from nutritious. On a good day, I'm eating lots of vegetables, and minimal sugar. My protein is set at 59. I like eggs. I can eat 3 eggs for breakfast, and maybe some tuna fish for lunch. That doesn't allow much wiggle room for dinner. That might even be my limit before I've even eaten dinner! I don't know. It's just pretty much a given that I'm going to surpass my protein limit every day.

    The mfp default settings are not set in stone. Many people change theirs. My protein goal is over 100 g, for example, and I treat it as a minimum. Don't feel like you have to stick with the defaults.

    For protein thats just a minimum so dont worry about going over it. I think its better that you get more protein and fiber then what it says. The rest i dont worry about

    Yup, this.

    I reset it to 40% carbs, 30% the other two so as to have a protein goal around 100 when I was losing, as well as fat and carb goals that fit with how I eat.

    Why macros as percentages of the whole don't work. Protein should be based on weight and activity, and fat and carbs based on how much needs to be eaten beyond that. Fat takes initial priority but with higher calorie needs the carbs should increase more.
