if i have a high sodium cheat meal i can see the water retention that day.0

It really depends on how big of a cheat day you had. A couple of hundred calories won't make a difference, 3500 over your daily maintenance allowance and you will see a pound gained. Anything in between is a percentage of.
If you ate high sodium, as @fishshark said, you may see a water gain.

Ever since I stopped doing cardio purely as exercise, I rarely saw a fluctuation on the scale even after a cheat day. I pretty much only see fluctuations/stubbornness when I have a period now.0

Sodium and long hikes are the things that show on the scale for me. Right now I'm showing the pizza I've had for the last 2 days lol. Another 2 or 3 days if I eat my normal foods the water weight will all go away. I temporarily gain upwards of 10+ sometimes from hiking - crazy lol.
The pizza wasn't worth it either since my tummy hasn't been happy.
