I'm following the nutrition guidelines from MyPlate.gov (http://www.choosemyplate.gov/protein-foods) and it's been working well for me. But I have a question about the protein guidelines. I drink a whey protein drink and wonder how it fits into the myplate Portions. Oftentimes a food's "serving size" does not equal myplate's "portion size".

How many grams of protein equal a portion?

The whey protein Brand package will give you a portion size, usually in grams.
For instance, my husband uses a whey protein brand that defines a portion as 31 grams
I use a different whey protein brand that defines the portion as 25 grams.
    You have to check.

A portion is the amount of food/drink you serve yourself at one sitting. A serving is a more or less predefined amount, that varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and is often used in national nutritional guidelines for reference. Regard servings as rules of thumbs. Eat to satisfaction and try to hit your calorie, macro and micro goals.
Protein drinks do not have a place on the myplate - this could be a good time to just focus on your needs, with the help of your MFP food diary...

I "love" that ALL ABOUT THE PROTEIN FOODS GROUP does not mention how much protein we need, but uses a lot of words, tables and equivalents to make it as difficult as possible to understand.
