Alright, so i started really trying to lose weight back in january. Was really unhappy with myself and was sitting at around 340. So 5 weeks later I've dropped down to 300, which is good cause it feels good to have dropped some of that weight.. but im getting really concerned that I'm maybe losing way too much, way too fast. Should i see a doctor about it?

Hi there! You're right, 40 lbs in 5 weeks is a lot of weight to drop so quickly. Are you drinking lots of water? Do you have any idea how many calories you're eating per day? If you're eating too little, it could definitely be the reason you're losing so much weight, but you don't want to do that for too long because you're body will realize its not getting as much food as it used to and its going to start fighting back. I'd love to talk to you more and see if there's anything else I can do to help you, whether its just having the support of other people doing the same thing as you, or if you have more questions that you need answered, feel free to message me anytime! I'd be happy to help0

I feel like I've been drinking enough, though I might not be. probably something I should be keeping track of. generally I've been taking in around 1800 calories a day, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less (200 either way).0

If you're eating 1800 calories and you're tracking it so you're sure, I wouldn't be too worried. If you just started its possible that its just excess weight from water retention that you're body is getting rid of. If you start to feel sluggish and like you have absolutely no energy to do anything, I might be concerned, but if you feel good, keep doing what you're doing because you're doing great!0

Was the bulk of that weight in the first few weeks? It's not uncommon to have a large drop in the first couple weeks. It should start slowing down a bit in the coming weeks.0

Eight pounds a week is quite a lot. However, a starting weight of 340 is well above the average starting point as well. Regardless of your results and progress it would probably be prudent to consult a medical professional and work with that person throughout your loss. Good luck!0

I think you should be fine, although I'm not a doctor. A couple of things to consider 1) your starting weight- the higher it is imo it makes larger drops easier, and the more you drop it will slow down 2) how many calories are you eating? You have probably drastically reduced your calories and your body's just responding to that 3) if you have changed the types of food your eating you could have been holding onto a lot of 'water weight' not 40lbs worth but still. I think it will probably slow down to a normal level of weight lose soon, but again I'm no dr and those are just my opinions0
