calories per day...does this seem low?

so according to my fitness pal if I want to lose 2lbs per week I should be eating 1400 calories per day. ive been sticking to this number for a while and I am not losing weight.

after reading some posts here Im thinking this is too few calories for me.

Im 43F 220lbs 5ft 7in and I exercise 4 times per week doing a jazzercise class for 1 hour.

what do you think?? too few calories or just right?

I am eating a low carb diet, cut out diet soda and sweets. an example of a days eating would be

apple and atkins bar for breakfast

lunch is usually a salad with chicken in in and low fat italian dressing

dinner last night I had broccoli, 2 chicken sausages and sautéed onion and peppers

snack is mixed nuts, greek yogurt and clementines

If you ate that plus your true exercise calories, you'd lose weight. If you're not losing, you're eating too much due to bad weighing/measuring/logging or overestimating exercise calories burned.

no im not weighing the food. not quite sure what I would have weighed using yesterdays diet as example and that is a pretty standard day for me. I am eating a whole bag of broccoli for dinner and sausages are packaged so I am using nutrition info, salad the same..just veggies and chicken breast.

Typically for accuracy you would weigh your solid foods -- so the fruit, vegetables, chicken, nuts . . . all of that would be weighed.

Then I can guarantee you you're consuming a lot more calories than you think you are.

Weigh all solids and measure all liquids with a measuring cup.

I am 28F, 5'7", and currently 167ish. I am eating an average of 1400 cals per day (plus eating back most exercise cals). I started the new year at 177lbs and lost 10 lbs so far this year eating around that amount ( I was off my diet for a little while, so some of that was water weight being lost in the beginning). So, you could probably lose by eating more.

However, since you say you are eating 1400 and not losing, I do not recommend you increase your calorie intake. I suggest you really make sure you are actually eating only 1400 calories. Weigh and measure everything.

Weigh everything that is thicker than water in a liquid state, on a digital kitchen scale. Most packaged foods weigh more than the serving size suggests. Packaged chicken breasts vary in weight enough to add hundreds of calories a serving. Nuts can add many calories very quickly even if you're off by an ounce. Apples vary in size and can have a wide calorie range.

Could you open your diary so we can see where there might be room for adjustments?

I started on 1400 calories at the same stats (5'7" and 220lbs) so it sounds about right to me. While I didn't eat my exercise calories back, it's also totally okay to do so.

If I could tell you how many times I've heard someone say this...lol..including MYSELF!!! Believe me, after one week, you'll see the difference in what you thought, and what really is. It's quite shocking :)

Are you getting enough fat? If you're eating low carb you need to be eating more fat

Well you probably aren't overeating in the same way you used to...but you might be eating at maintenance. That's what you need a food scale to determine.

I weigh everything: salad dressing, butter, sour cream, chicken, beef, fruit...
