No entry for slow runners in data base.

*sigh* So far I've logged my runs as fast walks on MFP, using a number of calories that fitted the METs for my combined running and walking speed. (MFP numbers seem to be higher for the same speed) Now I'm finally able to run for a whole hour without walking, and I find there's no running speed slow enough available in MFP. I run, there's a floating phase in my running but the slowest running speed available here seems to be 7.5min/km, while I should probably log about 8.5 to get a somewhat accurate calorie burn. And no, I don't want to enter a shorter running time either to get a calorie burn that might be more accurate.

I created a few custom exercises for myself for that purpose. That way you only have to spend a little time once, and in the future, you'll have more speeds to chose from in your personal exercise list.
To do that, I used that calculator:
    http://www.runnersworld.com/fitness-calculators/calories-burned-calculator

So e.g. if you want to know how much you burn at 8.5min/km, you simply enter 1km as distance, 8:30 as time and fill in your weight. That result you can then put in your custom exercise.

What's nice: when you update your weight in MFP, it will take that into account in the calculation of calories from your exercises, so you only have to do the calculation once.

P.S.: and congrats one running one hour without walking, that's great! :-)

Oh, there are custom exercises, right? I completely forgot about this option simply because I didn't want to change those when still losing weight. Been maintaining for nearly a year now, I didn't think about looking at it again. So I always used an exercise that kind of showed the expected calorie expenditure for the duration i was doing. Oh well..

Btw, I'll run my first 10 mile race this coming Sunday. I never ran 10 miles before (max being 8.5 miles with about 7.5 actually running and the rest walking/warming up) but with this new confidence I'm sure I'll do well enough. So lets see how much of this distance I will be able to run

Use Record. You enter the activity, time spent, and kms covered instead of your "speed". It syncs with mfp.

Thanks for the calculator - I'm going to use this
