Strange

So, when i stop at McDonald's for their oatmeal I feel full for the morning. When I make the Quaker oatmeal and add the same fruit I do not get the same sensation of feeling full and satisfied. I continue to feel hungry. What the heck is that? Does this happen to anyone else or am I the weird one? Thanks and have a great day!

You talking about the instant stuff?
Try steel cut oats. Make it the night before and it's for a few days.

I find the instant one is just mostly chemicals and sugars. You can't get full off that.

    Not all oatmeal is equal

Is it the same amount of oatmeal with the same calories, fat and protein?

I assume you are talking the individually packaged and flavoured kind rather than the rolled, quick oats. The only difference between steel cut and rolled is that rolled are rolled between metal rollers that causes them to flake and then they are steamed to allow for quicker cooking. There are no differences in nutrition. Although I actually prefere the oat groats to all and I'll even eat them and steel cut raw, it's pretty good really and very filling.

I beleive that add sugar and half-and-half cream so that could explain it.

I think I am going to try steel cut in the crock pot. I use milk in my oatmeal. I just found it strange. I am going to continue to add my dried fruits. Thanks everyone!

The description on the McDonald's site says "We take two full servings of 100% natural whole-grain oats and add a touch of cream. Loaded with red and green apples, cranberries and two varieties of raisins."
A serving is 251g with everything added and 194 g without apples, dried fruit and cream.
190 calories without apples, dried fruit or cream added, 260 calories without brown sugar, and 290 calorie with brown sugar.
    5 g protein
    4g fat
    http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/food/product_nutrition.breakfast.99999998.fruit-maple-oatmeal.html

A packet of Quaker Instant Brown sugar oatmeal (no fruit added) is 43 g.
    160 calories
    4 g protein
    2 g fat

Probably different serving size, calories, protein, and fat content. If you want your homemade version to be as satisfying then you might want to match what you are getting at the restaurant more closely.

Good for you for experimenting! I've been finding it REALLY cool to find out more about food and how it affects me.
