Does anyone do monthly weigh ins?

Well after starting my journey, I feel great about my improvements in diet and fitness. Unfortunately I have gained a very unhealthy obsession with the scale and it's discouraging me. I'm definitely not going to give up, but I find myself hopping on every scale I see. I work in a medical building so I weigh there. I go to the gym everyday and hop on there. And of course I weigh first thing in the morning. After a good loss of 13lbs, my weight loss stalled. Recently my weight has crept up 5 lbs over the last few weeks. This can be attributed to a new workout program I'm doing at the gym which probably can be compared to a HIIT program. My fitness is improving. I do an hour of cardio at least 5x a week...the elliptical is my machine of choice. I also do the HIIT program which is about 45 mins if you cut out the warm up. Sometimes I even have energy to do an hour fitness class (zumba, bodypump, etc) on top of that. I'm discouraged the weight isn't falling off. I actually lost more weight counting calories and just doing cardio 3-4x a week previously. But enough background, I'm going to progress through but I'm thinking of just doing monthly weigh ins while maintaining my diet/fitness changes. Is this too aggressive? I want to see results but I don't want a scale number to overshadow my other achievements. Does anyone do monthly weigh ins? If so what other tools do you use to measure progress besides measuring tape lol? Do you find this method works for you better than a weighing yourself more often? This is a lifestyle change for me, I'd like to think with modified behavior and continuing my diet/fitness modifications that this will become second nature. I've been fat my whole life and the only time I actually use a scale is when I'm trying to lose weight. Thanks for any advice offered!!!

I only weigh once a month- After my period when the bloat has gone down, in the morning, after using the bathroom.

I too would step on the scale daily, and I think it became a bit obsessive. Another thing you could do, to try and break the cycle, is only actually record your weight once a month, but continue to weigh yourself as you please. For some reason it helps me not care that I'm +/- 4lbs at any given time a day.

I am interested in this also. I am really struggling with losing weight, I do have health issues at the moment, but even so I eat really well and run a few times a week, have stopped drinking etc. I forgot actually about the tape!! I think I may just do that in the morning as I am losing hope. Perhaps as you say keeping with the running and eating well up the amount of exercise I get and just forget about the little pointer on the scale for now. I wish you both well and thank you for posting, Good luck.

Honestly I weigh in daily as it can fluctuate with what you eat. I have a dry erase board that I log it on and pick the low for that week. This way I can track my weight it would fit in my calories and macros and not get discouraged. Message me if you want more details. Would love to help

I'm interested in weighing once a month. I've been doing it weekly & it's been working out fine however, I'd like to be excited about getting on the scale instead of dreading it.

The real trick would be how to stay away from that damn thing for so long.

I started weighing monthly last October and love the mental freedom from the scale. Unfortunately, my weight is ticking up ever so slightly so I may need to go back to weekly. Daily is too stressful for me but I applaud those who can wave off several pounds of daily fluctuations-- I can't.

Hey thanks for the advice given to shaunjaden, i'm pinching & using it lol, tgkirn I read many posts last night (health issue stopped me sleeping) but I back track, I think on my thoughts of logging monthly last night!! I think the weight could slip upwards with out knowledge. I have just downloaded Happy Scale, on the advice of someone else on MFP, you can get it for android or IOS.
I will track daily, however as I KNOW it will fluctuate, I am going to let the numbers sort themselves out in the app, have a read up on it. Then I am likely to post, either weekly or monthly on here, however I feel fit.
Strangely I have lost a lb this morning, perhaps when we get fixed on numbers they don't move. I have also lost 5 inches since the last time I measured, 2inches off my waist, so that is a healthy result.
Good luck in what ever you decide!!

The only reason I weigh in once a week, is so I can adjust heart rate monitor and MFP with a more accurate weight, so help determine my caloric burn a bit more accurately. Considering I have lost 17 pounds since Jan31st, if I left the weight at my starting point, it would be highly inaccurate.

It's a matter of how long do you want to go down the wrong path? ;)
