Garmin FR70 Heart Rate monitor drops my HR

Every time my HR goes over like 155-160, the device suddenly drops my reported HR to 120, then 90, sometimes all the way to like 40 and leaves it there for the rest of the run.
This is a FR70 watch-and-chest-strap heart rate monitor for running and the gym. Am working with Garmin on this issue, but thought I'd ask if anyone here had a similar problem... THANKS in advance.

What age is the device?
As it's quite an old design I'd assume it's perhaps a couple of years old, in which case the battery in the HR pod may need changed?0 -

Thanks, yeah I bought it from a cut rate place and it is discontinued; did change the HRM battery and that wasn't enough. Thanks for the suggestion though!0
