Mine has been fluctuating around 5-6 lb a day, is this generally not normal?

Normal is relative when it comes to fluctuations.

For me, it's 1-2 pounds for the most part.

    Others have a higher range.

5-6 lb is a number I've seen posted by some folks here...what's your current weight? What's your height, age & gender? Those can play a role in water weight fluctuations :)

There is no "should". I can fluctuate 5 lbs between 7am and noon. I've never tracked it for the whole day. From one morning to the next it can be 1-3 lbs, sometimes more.

If your calorie intake is consistently at the same level either at or below your MFP calorie budget for your weight loss goal, your weight fluctuations will be influenced by your sodium intake and your menses. If your sodium is higher one day by 400mg than the day before, you should retain an extra 2 lb of water. It's quite drastic.

Depends mine changes about 2lbs however it can change up to 5lbs depending on the food I eat the day before. If you consume a large amount of carbs which will be broken down and stored as glycogen in your muscles this will increase you weight and increase your water retention.

Best thing is don't scale obsess it only tells you one part of the story
Weigh once a week same day time etc then write it down but only take your progress n a monthly weigh so if you started on Jan 20th every 20th is the progress indicator
TAPE MEASURE is better a inductor
