I agree with your original post but for compounds Ive been sticking with 5x5 at 80% of one rep max. As for diet I only focus on hitting protein and calories, I also make sure my fat intake is the same as my carbs forcing my body to resort to utilizing the fat which takes longer to undergo catabolism thus protecting muscle

Hmmmm.....body will only utilize fats, if carbs are low enough...............
