I find it hard to engage/drawn in (whatever you wanna call it) my abs while doing ab work. Does anyone have any tips that can help me achieve this?

There are four ab muscles (six total) and they are worked in a different way. What ab exercises are you doing? Any particular ones more difficult? Here are some of the more common exercises for each muscle.
Transversus Abdominis - Front Planks (when doing these, suck in your belly and hold for as long as the plank), You can also compress them when sitting or standing (to do this, imagine someone is going to ram into your belly so you brace yourself for the impact).
Internal Oblique Muscles & External Obliques - Woodchoppers/Lumberjacks*
Rectus Abdominus (the 4- or 6- pack) - Hanging Leg Raises, and Crunches
* A lot of people like Dumbbell Side Bends for obliques, but I would avoid them if you're trying to achieve a slender/V-cut to your waist. Or do them without weight or very light weight. The more weight you use, the more they will grow.
I hope this is of some help. Let us know if there are particular exercises that are particularly problematic.0 -
i have been doing 6 week 6 pack and 30 day shred. Its mainly variations of crunches I find it hard to hold them when naturally they want to go out when you crunch up if that makes sense0
