I recently had VO2 & LT tested in a lab on the treadmill, I'm 32 and enjoy triathlon as my hobby. My VO2 came out at 50 which is 'above average' for females but my running economy / lactate threshold were low so I was advised to increase the volume of run training I do at a HR 71% of max. In my case max was measured at 189, so HR for lactate training is 153bpm. It's only been about a month since I received & started following this advice but I've already achieved new PBs and feel positive about the direction my fitness & running is heading.
Not sure if that helps or is of interest but thought it might be an interesting example of how you can use the data to influence your training & results.
That is the kind of "total picture" thing I think is more important. I'm wondering how frequent it is for VO2max to be up that high with more normal levels of LT or FTP. But in the end, every person has different stronger and weaker points.
I tend to think my VO2max might be more limiting than my LT, but I'm not really 100% certain on that.0 -

Thanks!! This discussion has been very helpful actually!0 -
No idea. I focus on LT.
1:37 half marathon @ 140lb is my greatest result in the last yr. Today I ran 10k @ LT pace in 47:50 @ 155lb.0 -
Estimated at 51, cycling with power meter (VO2Max = ~105% of FTP). Not a metric I use in training but I do keep a eye on it (using Golden Cheetah).
Just started more structured training after putting down base miles for a year and half (restated cycling May 2014 after gaining 50# and sitting around for 23+ years). Current training consistent of twice a week: 1) 3x7 7x3 @ 110%+ of FTP and 2) 3x8 @ 105%+ of FTP, followed by a short Tempo ride and a long Tempo ride, 3+ hours, over the weekend. Training is geared at raising my FTP and planned for two build periods, 8 weeks total, then transitioning to sweat spot and threshold training to improve fatigue resistance (reaching/maintaining 3x20 SST & 2x20 TH per week). Hoping to hit 4 w/kg by end of September from ~3.7w/kg currently (a big hope). Just started in March but quickly derailed by a cold and been off the bike the last 1.5 weeks. Hope to restart the routine this Monday.
Over the winter I was only hitting one VO2Max a week cycling between the two types above with a day of 2x15 SST and a day or two of Tempo ride(s) all on the trainer (5+ hours per week). Most weekend I was able to get at least one long ride in.
Having a high VO2Max is GREAT but being able to maintain high % of VO2Max for prolonged period and a high VO2Max is much better. So, the training above is to improve my top end followed by ability to maintain it.0
