Polar FT40 on the fritz - Considering A300 vs. FT7???

To start, I've had my FT40 for over 2 years now. I've taken good care of it, etc., but the battery needed replaced a couple of months ago. Since then, I've barely had a single workout where it worked correctly. And it's definitely not a problem with the strap. It's not that it reads incorrectly, the watch itself completely freezes up and shuts down. I've reset it a thousand times and it will reset fine, but when I go to use it during a workout, it freezes up again. This is obviously very frustrating.

But now, I'm looking into a replacement. My first instinct was to buy the FT7. As fun as frills are, I don't necessarily need anything more than a HRM to use during workouts. I primarily want to accurately monitor my heart rate and get my estimated calorie burn. That's really all. BUT, the idea of having to eventually replace the batteries again on the FT7 scares me. Because of that, I'm wondering if I should go ahead and spring for the A300, which is rechargeable. I admit, some of the extras would be nice too, but it's mostly the rechargeable battery that attracts me.

There seem to be plenty of reviews around for the FT7, but because the A300 is newer I'm not finding as much. Do any of you have experience with it? Someone who has experience with both would be great. Appreciate any feedback anyone has. Thanks!

We both use FT7 (me and gal). Works just fine. I've broken 1 over the years. The transmitter got weak and the watch kept complaining about it, after your heart shows up as 0... They're good, Seeing your range, average, and peak heart rate is good. The estimated calorie burn is what we plug into MFP.

Replacing the battery is simple. Don't fret. Small flat tip screwdriver. Just pop the cover off. Before you pull the battery just pay attention to the + sign. It's also marked inside the cover. One of them is harder to find. I get them at the drug store.

Order them online. I got them much cheaper than that electronics chain store...

I've already replaced the battery without issue. It worked fine for about a week after that, but then the watch froze up mid-workout and has been consistently doing it ever since. It doesn't give me bad readings or anything, the screen freezes up, sometimes I get an hourglass symbol, then it just shuts down. To restart it, I have to remove and replace the battery. Then everything seems fine, then I workout again, and it happens all over again basically!
