So after days of researching various protein powders, this is the one I finally decided on:

Trutein Naturals Vanilla Bean Protein Powder

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/body-nutrition/trutein-naturals.html?searchterm=trutein natural

Which protein powder do you use? criticisms and advice in my decision are welcome.

Also, I have a question about multi-vitamins. After a few days of tracking my calories and trying to get the most nutrient packed meals available to me at the moment, I noticed I was lacking in all nutrients.

this was really never a problem before, because well, I ate too d*mn much. lol

I guess my question is:

Should I take a multi-vitamin just to make sure I get everything I need? Are vitamins a waste of money? Do I flush the excess out and if so, is it bad for my kidneys, liver, etc... ?

Just a few questions.

I just recently (like, this month) started experimenting with protein powder for days that I don't get enough in my diet (because I have started working out/weightlifting). Looking back at my diet, there were days where I was barely getting 30g of protein, so that is why I have the powder as a backup. I have been better about getting it in my diet naturally, but the powder is easy. I have been using GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 - the cookies and cream flavor. I don't take a full serving, I just weigh out how much I need, which is usually about half, or about 25g of protein worth. It was on sale, which is why I got it. I will probably switch to what you can buy at costco after I'm done with this. I don't love the taste, but I guess I don't hate it either. It isn't something I look forward to, but I don't mind chugging it when needed.

I'm not a bodybuilder, so I don't need anything special, just a boost of protein. I suggest the same for you. If all you're looking for is a boost of protein, just find a brand that tastes okay to you that you can afford. I wouldn't get too crazy researching about anything else unless you have sensitivity to certain ingredients.

Multi vitamins, yeah, I don't take. Probably wouldn't start unless my doctor recommended it.

Looks like a good protein to me. I prefer a 100% whey protein and/or 100% casein protein, and that looks to be a blended formula. Either way, 25gr of protein for 120 calories is good. Only 20 "extra" calories in it per serving.

I use body Fortress Super advanced whey, I buy it at Wal-Mart, I have tried a lot of different ones and I like the taste of this and it is really soluble in water or milk. Its relatively cheap and I can get it at any Wally World

I do because like you I feel now I am lacking with my reduced menu

I feel better under them, My doc says I am D deficient.

Hmmm, I am sure there is wash out as seen with urine color, I'm not expert but my nails and hair seem better when I am on the one a day.

I took a lot of different protein powders in past, but most of them didn't make any difference or didn't like taste.

Starting this year, I have been using "Muscle Pharm Combat Protein Powder (Cookies & Cream)". I take around 1.5 scoops (about 210 cals) in evenings an hour before I go to gym. I am seeing a good change in my overall metabolism & I don't feel hungry for at least 4-5 hrs after taking it. Check it out online.

About multi-vitamins, they had some studies few months back which said they aren't as good as claimed. Since then, I stopped taking them myself. It's a personal choice, but as long as you are eating varied foods (veggies, fruits, proteins, some carbs), you should be good.

    All the best.

I love Trutein. The red velvet and birthday cake are my favorite. They also have protein pudding.

While I do supplement, I don't take multis. Buying key nutrients individually allows me to get the doses and forms I need. For example, I'm anemic, and it took a lot of trial and error to find a form of iron that got both my energy and iron levels up.

Awesome advice from everyone. I only take half of the recommended daily dosage of multi-vitamins, but the consensus seems to be just take what your body needs and get it from your food. As my meal planning gets more fine tuned to nutrient rich foods, I will ween myself off the vitamins.

And I do have another question. ..

    Good potassium supplements/food?

I like the body logix brand...both vanilla and chocolate. Lower calorie (122 per 24g protein), tastes great mixed with water. They have strawberry too, but ive never tried it.

No artificial flavors, sweeteners or colors and non gmo if that does anything for you...personally i keep buying it for the taste. $24.99 at meijer.

Yes! In fact I'm going to Meijer tomorrow and will check it out.

Even before this diet, I would mostly buy non gmo and stay away from artificial flavors, sweeteners, and colors, (except when baking cakes and such).

    Thank you. =)

After trying a number of protein powders, I settled on one from Vitamin World for taste and because they have BOGO Free sales all the time so the price is right. I buy fresh berries and other fruit and freeze them and add the protein powder to my fruit smoothies. Coconut vanilla yogurt goes with it very well, too. Makes my smoothies complete meals.

I take Shesupps (shipped from the UK). I currently have the banana flavor in the lean protein category. It's 113 calories per 1 serving (3 scoops) with 24g protein and 3g carbs. Taste phenomenal and my package arrived within just a week. Check out their website!!!
