Complete proteins?

So, combining proteins is a myth, right? Like if I have a couple tablespoons of peanut butter with apple slices, I can still count the 8 grams of protein even if it's not "complete"?
How does the whole protein/amino acid thing work anyway?

    Yes, you can count it. Assuming you're eating a variety of foods, your body will automatically combine them. It doesn't have to be the same meal or anything like that.

    Count the protein that you eat weather its complete or not. I am just learning about the complete proteins aswell. I have found that it is important for us humans to consume complete proteins because they contain the amino acids that our body can not naturally produce. By eating complete proteins, you are only feeding your body more of what it needs. We are made of amino acids and so is protein. For body builders it is more important to eat these complete proteins because they are eating many food groups and need to make sure they feed there body the amino acids that they need to recover quicker and build muscle faster. I hope this helps.

    As long as you're eating a balanced diet the proteins will become "complete" throughout the day. Old school nutrition said to have a complete protein you had to eat 2-halves at once, i.e. hummus and pita bread or rice and beans, but as long as you eat a varied diet you will be fine.

    Complete ones come from meat. Others can be ok, but inferior.

    Thanks for the replies! So, out of curiosity, does anyone have a handy link for the foods that contain various "parts" of complete protein? I'm wanting to verify that my diet is varied enough to include most of them regularly.

    You can check the amino acid components of foods at nutritiondata.self, but it's not really necessary if you have a balanced diet.

    my suggestion would be to plug in the foods you are eating into chronometer for a breakdown of all the amino acids you are or aren't hitting.
