When will the weight shed off for me?

All my life I've tried different methods to losing weight, and every time it slaps me in the face. Most recently, I've just slowly stopped eating fattening foods and I've exercised every single day, and I'm not stupid. I wasn't expecting it to just happen. I know it's going to take time but, every day.. Someone else says something to me that just reminds me of how heavy I am.. And I just hate it.. I want to stop feeling bad for the way I look and I want people to stop coming to me and making me feel big, ya know? Obviously I know I look big.. And they do it on accident too by saying stuff like "omg doesn't this super fattening thing look awesome to you?" Or "this shirt is way too big on me, do you want it?" Or my favorite, while I'm sitting there looking at myself in a mirror and looking at all my "curves" someone will walk by and say "these pants are way too big on me!!" As I'm on my last couple pairs of pants.. How does it get easier?

When you get hard core about this and eat at a deficit every day you won't shed anything. You will gradually lose weight and nobody will notice at first. You will then notice pants won't be as tight or move a belt loop. Its then that it hits you "I can do this". You will then piss off everyone with your relentless counting and exercise (that's how you know you are doing it right). Depending on your size it could take a year or more. Remember this is not punishment, it is not a diet its not a race. You are training your self on how to eat proper sized portions and hopefully better healthy foods. The best part is you will feel better, be more active, and likely live a longer healthier life. Above all don't starve yourself or binge eat. One or two pounds every week will get you to the finish line. Good luck!

Are you saying that even with the changes in your diet and exercise you haven't lost weight yet?

If you are not losing weight, then the changes you have made so far are not enough to make a deficit.

It doesn't really matter WHAT you eat, it's HOW MANY CALORIES you are eating that matters.

Put your stats into MPF to figure out how many calories you should eat.

Accurately weigh and measure EVERYTHING and make a commitment to yourself to stay under your limit.

You will lose weight, it's really not complcated.

Nevermind how much weight you have lost, the most important thing should be how do you feel? I haven't seen the scale move in a week and getting on the scale daily was depressing me so I hid it from myself :D . If you have more energy throughout the day and finish the workouts with proper form and sweat, then keep pushing through. It will eventually pay off so don't give up!!!!

If you are just saying that it is taking FOR EVER to happen...

I've been heavy ALL MY LIFE so I totally get how embarrassing and frustrating it can be. But you will really appreciate the changes when you work really hard to make them.

I have been focusing on every positive change and victory, rather than on how LONG this process takes. I have been working on it for 2.5 years now and it has been really difficult but I feel SO DARN GOOD!

So, I'm currently ~200 days into this, and ~22lbs down. I'm going at a gradual pace, but my weight loss so far has been steady and consistent, as long as I stay steady and consistent in my caloric deficit.

Before joining here, I'd lost another ~30lbs or so using other (read: dumb and unsafe) methods. The combined ~50lbs has taken me a little more than a year to lose, and I still have another ~70lbs to go before I'm at my approximate goal.

What I'm saying here is that it's a long journey, but it's well worth it. Just earlier this month I pretty much had to go out and buy all new clothes because everything I owned was too big for me. Wearing smaller clothes and actually thinking I look good in them for the first time has been a hell of a confidence boost, and I'm more happy than ever with my decision to do this.

Hang in there, and you'll realize the weight has been coming off the whole time without you really noticing.

It's just taking what seems like forever!! But, thanks for sharing your success! I'm not as heavy as I used to be when I was younger, I'm just not where I'd like to be yet, and I'm afraid even though I DO log everything with MFP and I'm always under my calorie goal that it just won't work. But I just have to keep going with it!

That's right, because there really isn't a better answer. You just have to trust the process and keep it up....for as long as it takes!

But it's not impossible, you can do it! Set tons of small goals along the way and celebrate every little victory!

One day something will happen that'll make you realise how well you're actually doing. It won't be the scale hitting a number, it'll be fitting into smaller clothes - that's when people will start to notice.

Also, I haven't seen anyone say it so I will - screw those people who are saying those things to you. It's insensitive at best and at worst totally rude - ignore them, they're probably just trying to make themselves feel better by being mean to you. Use them as your motivation.

It does take time that's for sure! When I first started it seemed like that first 5 lbs would not come off! I'm now down 15 but it has taken a lot of patience. I log everything, I drink lots of water, and I do about 30 min of aerobics everyday. Whenever I first started it said I could have 1600 calories, to me I thought that was too much so I changed it to 1400. So from my personal experience on this journey (which I still have ALOT to lose) I try to have at least 300 to 400 calories leftover from the day. Hope this helps!

I was reminded that it takes 3 months for people around you daily to notice gradual changes. A couple years ago I lost 50 lbs. It wasn't until I had to travel to colleagues out of state that I finally got the "holy crap" notice I was looking for. You'll get there. Keep going. I'm back on track and have lost 11lbs, but the only one who notices is me when I had to move my belt in an inch. Baby steps count. And just a little FYI... I hate negative people who suck the success out of you. Stay away from them.

    Best of luck

Thank you guys all so much! You've all given me more inspiration, and I honestly appreciate that so much beyond words! Sometimes I just get discouraged but, everyone does at times! I will just continue to pick myself back up, and I will use these negative comments as motivation and I will most definitely try to avoid them all together:)
