Right now I'm counting my calories and I'm finding out just how bad my eating habits are I haven't start working out at the gym yet. I'm trying to learn how to eat correct first. do you think I need to still try to work out as well?

Not yet - establishing new habits take time. Anyone can take a cookie cutter (one-size-fits-all) plan and eat exactly as described, but that won't help them much when they get to maintenance.
You are figuring out YOUR diet. That's good. Learn one thing first, build consistency. Then move on to the next step. This is a really good approach!0
