Hi Everyone,
So I have heard from so many people that avocados are very good for health... So I thought I would give it a try and got one today.
But I have no clue as to how to use it... Could you all please help me with some healthy recipes. Quick fixes would be really welcome as I am not sure I would have all the ingredients to do anything elaborate.
Please let me know how to store it too.
Thanks a ton,
Anu

I cut them up in small chunks and put them on top of scrambled eggs with a little salsa............mmmmm. They also go great just sliced on top of any kind of lunch meat sandwich - great source of vitamins.0

I eat them plain with a little salt... only 1/4 of one or 1/2 because they are so high in fat.0

Mashed up on toast is good, or sliced thinly with plum tomatoes on crackers.
Mmmmm.... avocados.....0 -
Make some fresh guacamole! It should be easy to google search a recipe for it. I love guac...0

I usually just have it as it is, with some seasoning and a drizzle of olive oil, or cut into chunks in my salads or have it in californian sushi rolls or if you want it as a dessert I sometimes have it as it is with a teaspoon of condensed milk or a sprinkle of brown sugar.0

I heart avocados! I eat them in my turkey sandwiches, with crackers, with pita chips, in my salads, by themselves... the different ways to integrate them into your meals is endless
Enjoy!0 -
Use it as a spread instead of mayo for sandwiches and wraps, or make small slices and eat them on top of some whole wheat crackers with a dash of pepper... or crush it all up with some diced tomatoes, onions, a little bit of garlic, sour cream (or plain yogurt) and some lime juice for guacamole!! Enjoy with chips (pita chips are divine), whole wheat tortillas, on a burger, or in fajitas.0

Ahhh?..healthy - yes. You do, also, realize they are high in caloires and fat....right?:blushing:
This, like all, food is healthy in m-o-d-e-r-a-t-i-o-n.

guacamole
1 ripe avocado
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
2 tablespoons lime juice
1-2 gloves of garlic (depending on how garlicy you like it)
Put all ingredients in a food processor, blend until smooth then transfer to a serving bowl and place the pit in the middle, keeps the guacamole from turning brown0 -
I love Black Bean Avocado Salsa!
1 can rotel
1 can drained black beans
1 diced up avocado
1 TBSP sugar
and fresh squeezed lime over the diced avocado. Just mixed everything up and use scoops chips to scoop and eat-up. Its a great party salsa even.0 -

Fresh guacomole! I just smoosh up some avocado with some garlic and a little salt. I only eat about 1/4 of an avocado at a time too. We don't usually store because usually between my husband and son, we eat the rest.0

Personally all I need is a spoon and I'm happy!!! I love avocados!!!! But, how about a cold soup? http://www.williams-sonoma.com/recipe/avocado-soup-with-shrimp-and-salsa.html
I've tried this recipe and replaced the heavy cream with non-fat half and half and it was terrific! I have also wanted to try replacing the cream with greek yogurt, I'll let you know how that goes when I try it.0 -
Thanks so much everyone.. I wanna try them all, but I guess I will have to go easy on them because of the high calories..
I am atleast putting it in my salad tomorrow, but will also try to make some other dish. Will definitely try the other recipes in the weekend! :flowerforyou:0 -

I got a raw avocado :brokenheart: I think I will have to wait till it is ripe to do anything with it ... I will be careful while picking next time!0 -
Avocados are so sweet and nice, they dont need anything else.....You prepare your dinner...and just cut couple slices and put it in the plate with your meal
Avocado is very fattening, so be careful not to eat too much at any one time0 -

My absolute favorite is just taking the avocado & mixing up with diced tomato then putting that ontop of a portabello mushroom. Then I drizzel Bragg's liquid aminos over top and get some on the mushroom as well!!!!!!0 -
Oh yeah another super quick & simple avocado recipe:
You can cut in half depending what your eating along with it
Super simple spinach dip:
1 avocado
4 cups spinach
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt or extra spicy dash or something like that - your season salt of choice
Process it all up & dip veggies or whatever - yummy!!0 -
This may sound gross to some folk, but I used to take in to work quite often a salad made from avocadoes, sliced strawberries and Marks and Spencers lemon garlic prawns. Mmm...0
