Ok, here's one for us nerdy types: When creating a new food entry based on USDA website data, how do I calculate the % of vitamins for the item? For example, when I look at the USDA data for cheddar cheese (01270, Cheese, cheddar, sharp, sliced) it lists vitamin A as 994 IU and calcium as 711 grams. How do I convert those to a % to add to the MFP field for those nutrients? Thanks!!!

The DV for Calcium is 1000mg, 18 mg for iron, 5000 IU for Vitamin A, and 60 mg for Vitamin C. Divide your food by that number, and adjust the decimal place accordingly. For an example... If your food contains 994 iu of Vitamin A: divide 994 by 5000 -> results in 0.1988 -> 19.88% of the DV -> enter as so into MFP

    ^^ This.

The actual regulation can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Section 2, 21CFR101.9

All of the official usda entries are already in the MFP database as verified entries. The wording is the exact same as in the USDA database, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find once you know how it's worded. The serving size will have a drop down so that you can search for the correct one for whichever method you're using - ounces, slices, shredded, grams...

Thanks for the tip, but sadly not all the USDA entries are correct. I've found many that only offer "cups" instead of "grams" for measuring or lists "one medium size" instead of "grams." I've also found verified USDA entries that have missing or inaccurate data. So for many of the common things I use the most, I like to rely on my own entry that has been directly copied from the USDA database.
