I have been on WW for the last year and I am burnt out, especially with the new program. I really need a fresh start...any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am tired of paying 44.95 a month for a program that's not working for me....please help! I want to count calories and not points for a change.

Yeah and the best part is MFP is free! Feel free to add me.
I think the only thing you really need to succeed at this is determination and a small degree of obsessiveness. I went from the mid 230s last year to the low 190s currently; now have a "normal" BMI for the first time in years.0 -
I found the logging on ww to be a lot looser than MFP. With MFP be sure you are logging everything you put in your mouth, including fruits and veggies. Use a food scale for all solids, measuring cups for all liquids. The database is a million times better than ww so that will help a lot with logging. There's no weeklies, but you should eat back at least a portion of your exercise calories.
I actually went back to WW because I like their focus on healthy eating. With MFP I would spend all my calories on chocolate and be hangry and miserable, so I would suggest keeping some of those WW principles in mind.
Good luck - you'll do great - just work on that accurate logging and you'll see the results you're hoping for.0 -
Hello StaphanieHal, I started MFP, MyFitnessPal, 31 days ago. I planned to do so on a Saturday, and began logging my food on the following Monday. I spent the weekend planning how I'd undertake this new thing. I decided that for the first week, I'd change nothing. That was my plan. All I did was log the food I had which was the food I'd have had anyway. As the week went on, I found myself thinking "Do I really want this candy?", "Do I really need this snack?", and I started eating less and less as the week went on. By the third week, I was trying to find more nutritionally-dense food to satisfy my calorie goal, because plain old starch from white rice just wasn't going to give me much in the way of nutrients. Right now my steamer is busily steaming a fillet of salmon, 1 cup of chopped broccoli, and 2/3 cup of mixed vegetables. I'll add a pat of butter to the vegetables when they're done. That will be 344 calories, protein, nutrients, and good fat. I would not have been doing that had I not been provoked to think about what I was eating by actually recording what I was eating and also reading some of the more experienced health mavens commenting in the community discussions.
Being the sort of person who suggests that you do what works, and this worked for me, I'll suggest that you don't try so hard to get it perfect on day 1. Ease into it but start by recording everything you eat and record your exercise. You'll think, apply what you know to what you learn, and make changes as you understand the value of those changes. Come along, it's easy.0 -
as long as you think you can keep yourself motivated without the WW group support, I'd give it up. We're always here if you need someone to chat with (add me!) and there is so much information available right now for free on the internet that you really don't need to pay. If you're dedicated, motivated, and you think you can stick with the logging (really a super important part) you'll be great.0

I, too, was a WW off and on for 5 years. Never any luck. MFP has been great because it satisfies my need to log everything. However, the key is as the other person said, you need to WANT to lose weight. Without a sincere desire, you won't get anywhere. So rev yourself up, start walking, drink plenty of water, cut down portion size and LOG, LOG, LOG. It may take a while, but the pounds and inches will start coming off.
Good luck.0 -
Thank you to all of you and especially your advice and motivation. I am really looking forward to the group of MFP.0

One WW feature that you might find helpful is to do a weekly personal weigh in and reflection. What went well? What can you try in the coming week? I credit weekly reflection and weekly goals have kept me interested and engaged.0
