Eggs and cholesterol. Good or bad?

Hey guys,
So I know eggs are high in cholesterol if the eggs are whole. My fiancée and I eat a lot of eggs since it's a cheap protein. Maybe 3-4 per day most days. After reading some studies things were looking like the recommended amount is under 7 a week without negative effects. But I know a lot of people eat a lot more than that.

Anyone have any advice on should eggs be restricted? Obviously too much of any good thing is bad but how much is too much with eggs?

    There was a study a while back on dietary practices and it was discovered that people that ate 7+ per week had a higher risk of clinical events - so a lot of places take that as recommendation. Except it is totally irrelevant to someone tracking calories - these individuals that ate more than 7 eggs tended to be fatter, had higher rates of inactivity, consumed higher calories, etc. So you can ignore that. If you are interested in the study it is here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2386667/

    Note that it contradicts the Framingham study which shows no correlation between egg consumption and CV events.

    The real issue is total diet. How does the consumption of eggs impact the other food you eat? Are you varying protein sources, are you assuring vegetable and fruit variety. If consuming 4 eggs a day is reducing the calories you allocate to variety, then yes, it can be an issue. By itself, nope, the evidence doesn't suggest it.

    Eat all the eggs, keep variety of food sources in your thoughts.

    Read this: http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/eggs/

    " Recent research has shown that moderate egg consumption—up to one a day—does not increase heart disease risk in healthy individuals (1, 2) and can be part of a healthy diet. ....This research doesn’t give the green light to daily three-egg omelets. While a 2008 report from the ongoing Physicians’ Health Study supports the idea that eating an egg a day is generally safe for the heart, it also suggests that going much beyond that could increase the risk for heart failure later in life. Already posted the study - it only holds for a minor risk increase when no dietary controls were present and it is quite weak on confounders. It was found that the risks were there for diabetic and obese older men.

    Correlation =/= causality.

    If I understand correctly, while the guidelines are no longer to avoid eggs yolks like the plague, still research advises caution. Of course it is about overall risk factors, plus whatever risks one comfortable with. But I understand that drs still advise against eating more than 1 egg per day on average.
