Hooping...

So I'm thinking about starting up Hooping. From all of my extensive Google searching there isn't any local club/group around for me to talk to about it. So I'll most likely be flying solo here...

I'm looking for others who have done it or still currently are...what are your thoughts? Where would you suggest a beginner like me start? What books/DVDs worked for you?

Also, what do you think the workout was like? What were your calorie losses like, if you know this?

Thank you! :-)

LOL! Its basically hula hooping, only the traditional hoops come in various sizes and weights...

Go to: hooping.org for more info!

I heard it's great for the core. My friend has a weighted hoop and I tried it but can't get the hang of it!
  • My co-worker is a "hooper" and has been doing it for about 3 years (she even has a portable hoop that breaks down into a small carry around that she brings into work sometimes!) I asked her for info and this is what she said:

Go to youtube.com and search for Hoop dancing or hooping and they have tutorial videos and stuff (you may have to weed through things about basketball). Its your best start, along with google for the same items!

    Good luck!

Oh, I have a hoop, gonna go check out you tube now. Oh, but to answer your question, becareful when you first start, if you don't ease yourself into it, you'll end up bruised :blushing: I was warned about that by the owners of Ladies Workout Express, and didn't listen :ohwell:

I started hooping a couple of months ago before the winter (I live in Québec, so the winter doesn't help me with the workout!) but I will start again. I have a travel hoop from Hoopnotica and their DVD 1 and 2. I love it! Everything is well explained, and there is a "troubleshoothing" section that helps you when you have a problem. I really love it and I can't wait to take it outside in my backyard!

If you have more questions feel free to write me!:flowerforyou:

    Hope this helps!
(If you want to see what the Hoopnotica DVD look like you can go on youtube and there is a ton of video from the dvd)

I took 3 classes of it. Before I did that, I didn't even know how to hoop. In 10 mins I was hooping like a pro! (almost) Youtube is great if you can't find a class to try out. If you do find a class, see if you can get the first one free.
