My Job is Making Me FAT!

Not entirely true..."I" am making me fat, but my job certainly doesn't help! I'm a chef, and so food is around all day long, and part of my job is to taste things. The other part is the temptation a freshly fried basket of chicken tenders and other unhealthy things!
My name is Teresa...and over the course of the last 5 years in my current position, I've gained 40 pounds. i've got about a dozen excuses, all of which have been hashed over by people throughout the ages, but the reality is i need to get control of my eating and excercise habits. i've been on MFP on and off over the last couple of years, but haven't really stuck to it. I have a couple of people here at work that are my friends here, but i need accountability!
My goal is to lose the 40 pounds i gained, and to maintain a healthy lifestyle...truth be told, I am good with just getting out of my very tight size 12 jeans and back into a comfortable pair of size 8's!
Any encouragement and/or *kitten*-kicking is welcome!

I feel the same way- I just started a desk job after having a fairly active job where I was on my feel all day- the pay is much better but the sitting isn't!!

Been in the food business for 30 years and find much of the same problem/ Definitely takes some daily discipline but it is possible and recognizing your problem is a great first step. Feel free to add me if you wish0

I always wanted to be a chef, but in a way i'm glad i'm not - being around yummy food in a state-of-the-art kitchen might be too much temptation for me :bigsmile: but I do love to cook and try new recipes0 -
If its something you really want, you will find a way, if you don't want to do the work, you will find an excuse. --I truly believe this because until about 5 months ago, I was up and down constantly, using excuses when I felt lazy, then using laziness to justify eating crappy, etc.
you are a chef! you understand flavor profiles and spices well, use that to your advantage when making HEALTHY food choices! When it comes to food, you are the expert! so use MFP as a way to get ideas for new healthy foods and use your knowledge to your advantage.
Try finding a workout you enjoy, then it won't seem like work. I recently (as of Saturday) started CrossFit and I LOVE IT! I know it might not be for everyone, but if there is a gym that offers it nearby, check it out. The workouts are altered to every person's own capability. I can't do a pull up unassisted, no problem, there are bands or rings for me to use to help! Even just going for a walk with a friend, dog, sig other, is better than nothing! Do you have someone you can workout with? That way you can hold each other accountable?
last cliché I'm going to mention, the weight didn't go on over night, so don't expect it to come off overnight either. its a process, it takes time to figure out what works for you....and its a trial and error thing. Keep positive!

Hi There: I read your post and I can't imagine how challenging it must be-being around food all day.
Maybe the only way to compound it-is to start exercising regularly to compensate for the food tasting all day.
Losing weight is pure physics--Burning more calories than what you take in.
Walking is the cheapest cardio there is. It can be fit into any schedule.
Ilike to get mine done first thing in the morning when everything is waking up. It quite a special time.

I have relatives in the food business and I sympathize. Apart from any help you can get here are there specialized sites or groups for people in your area? Your problems are unique. You have to taste food all day to make a living.
