how do u decide on protein powders

how do u decide whether to use whey or another kind and what do I need to look for in the ingredients and nutritional info? Any help is appreciated. my goal is to lose weight if that makes a difference. I also have a walmart, health food store, and gnc nearby.

Protein powders will not help you lose weight. They exist to supplement protein that may be missing in your diet. I eat very little meat (not a moral thing, a taste thing) and so I supplement with protein powders or bars when needed. A vegan would probably choose a soy or pea etc protein powder, whey is great for everyone else and I prefer a cassien blend because I mostly use it when making cookies and muffins and it bakes well.

I don't use them...I do think that people go overboard on protein...not that it hurts...just that it is unnecessary for the majority of people.

I have lost 30 lbs...have put on muscle (based on increases in bicep and quad (6" above knee) measurements. I have an average of roughly 150g (currently 221 lbs) of protein....

I don't meet my protein goal without it, and I don't have the appetite to eat that much more protein. I am gluten intolerant, and the list of GF protein powder is rather short, so it made my decision fairly easy.

There are so many protein powders. It really depends on what your ultimate goal in using it is. Are you looking for a meal replacement or ad a workout recovery? If you have a GNC then go and ask questions, takes notes & do some research. I have a Complete Nutrition near me & they will take anything back that I don't like. And I trust what they're telling me.

I drink the body logix brand...mainly because it tastes good when mixed with water and i sometimes dont have extra calories to add to protein powder to make it palatable.

    Its also available locally...at meijer.

Then you need to rethink your diet. If you can't get 76g via regular food then something is wrong and you're very likely eating too many filler foods with little nutritional value . . . or a ton of veggies. Chicken breasts, sirloin steaks, lean pork, eggs, egg whites, yogurt, cottage cheese, and fish all contain enough protein to cover you.

Pure protein from walmart is less than $1 / serving.
Some GNC stuff is over $3 a serving.

Actually, I hate the taste of most protein poweders, and even the thought of turning a powder into a drink. However, the only protein powder I would consume is the Isagenix protein shake. It tastes amazing, and it also helps in weight loss. It has all your vitamins, and daily fiber too. I am not selling this product, just FYI. But it's the only one I will use.

76g should easily be coming from the whole foods you eat, so you are just eating foods with little to no protein if you can't meet that goal in an entire day.

That being said, what your looking for when picking a protein is obviously taste, does it mix well, and that it fits in your calorie and macro goals for the day.

I highly suggest you check out the bodybuilding.com store and starts comparing proteins. Your pretty much gonna be looking for powders in the 100-200 cal and 20-28g protein per serving ranges. Since your goal is weight loss, I would suggest finding one lower in cals closer to 100-120, and as much protein per serving as possible, watch the carbs and fat content as well.

It's very important when comparing to look at the grams per serving for price comparison. You might find two identical powders in macros and $$$, but one is 34 gram servings and the other 44 gram so obv you will get more servings from the tub that is 34 gram per serving.

GNC and your gym will just rip you off, buy online...
