newbie college student

so ive been using sparkpeople the last few weeks (finally got back on the 'hey I should mind what I do with my body and take care of myself' thing when I started a spinning class this semester) but I've just gotten myself a garmin vivofit 2 and since it'll sync with mfp, here we are. anyway, I'm 18, in my second year of college (chem major), living in NY state but dreaming of travelling so much when I have the means. working to save money through a job at mcdonald's, doing my best to mind my dietary habits and fitness with my packed schedule. (and really looking forward to spring and clear roads for cycling!!!) trying to lose 30lbs, get myself into a better shape. if anyone could relate to any of this/offer tips/whatever, that'd be really chill of you. (I guess things go better when you do it in groups or something? not that I'm any good at social stuff but hey, whatever works I guess).
