When and how to get started?

Hi there, this is my first post here.

Please could anyone advise me?

I am getting close to my goal weight..9lbs left after losing a steady 2lb a week. Lost 26lbs so far. 5ft6 female, started at 174 now 148 and aiming for 139

It's really great being slimmer but if I'm honest the bod is still not a prettiest picture without clothes on (2 kids and sedentary lifestyle for so long and all that!)

I'm very keen on heavy lifting having read a lot about on here (I've always been strangely strong for a girl!) and jogging.

Really not sure if I should start now or wait to when I hit goal?

I will be lifting at home in the garden, thinking of getting adjustable weights, using household objects and using my own body weight (planks etc?)

Not really sure where to start as only used the gym weight machines years ago. I've ran X-country on an off over the years but that's something I know I can do as a busy mum with two jobs.

Any advice much appreciated, thanks!
:-)

The sooner you start I think the better off you are. From my experience, and a lot I have read on these forums, strength training is the way to go. It is better for building muscle which helps burn more calories when at rest. I myself use the gym weight machines about 4 or 5 times a week (alternating body parts) and then do the treadmill for 1/2 hour. Wish you the best to getting to goal, with exercise you should get there even sooner!

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking the sooner the better but a bit confused about being in a deficit and losing muscle thing.

You can get a basic set of hand weights and find free workouts online that you can do from home.
I don't have the option of a gym - living in the middle of nowhere - but I use a free online website frequently (www.hasfit.com) and I like that there are plenty of different levels. I started with basic beginner videos and have worked up in the dumbbell weight while increasing the level from beginner to intermediate. You definitely don't need a gym to get started. Good luck!

Thanks for this! that website looks really useful too- to help learn what exercises to do and how to do them at home.

    Will get started straight away!
