New running shoes

I bought a new pair of Brook's Adrenaline GTS 16s last night. Went out for a three mile run this morning and my toes were a little numb on the left foot and my pinky toe on my right was raw from the seem in the shoe. I had a pair of 13 that I never really needed to break in so I did not think three miles was too much.

I am not a big runner. I just go three miles one day a week and this is only my second pair of running shoes. Anyone have this shoe? Is it just a matter of breaking them in or does this sound like just not a good fit for me?

If it's the right shoe for you and fits properly they should not need "breaking in". I've been running in the same model of shoes for years and dread it when a new iteration comes out......

Did you get fitted for them or just buy them?

    Agreed

Great question. When I got my shoes, I got them fitted at a running store, and they never needed any breaking in

It could be something as simple as tying the laces too tightly or tying them wrong. Google different ways to lace running shoes and you'll see what I mean.

I'm thinking it's the wrong shoe for you. I didn't realize that running shoes may get a new design when companies update, rather than just changing colors.

I have a pair of the GTS 12's that still fit me perfectly, but they don't have the support I need for running anymore so they're retired. I initially picked up a pair of GTS 14's, and I just couldn't run in them. Turned out they were a slightly different fit than the 12's.

I would return these if you can and go get fitted - might be time to switch brands for a good fit.

Yup - they shouldn't need breaking in. Lacing differently - as suggested - could help. I always buy a half size bigger than my normal dress shoe. Socks are important to some people. Also, for what it's worth, I was a regular runner for many years before I stopped getting fitted at a specialty shop. The good places really help by watching you run around the store, checking the wear on your old shoes and then recommending something especially for you. Good luck - painful shoes are really demotivating!

Thankfully I was able to return them. I bought them at Dick's so there was no advice when I bought them. I went down to a running store and found out that I should not be running on the GTS 16 at all since I do not need the stability it offers. I guess I just got lucky when I bought my 13s years ago.

I will definitely go to the running store from now on. The guy was so helpful and I tried on some Brooks and ASICS that both felt great and went with the ASICS for aesthetic preference. I looked online and totally misdiagnosed the way I run.

I needed the stability of the Brooks when I first started running. Stuck with running for a solid year (2-3 runs a week, 3-5 miles each time) resulted in my form improving and me no longer needing the stability of the Brooks.

I have something by Mizuno now and I love them. Just picked up two new pairs so I can rotate and get a little more life out of them, hopefully.

Glad to hear you found something that will work better for you!!
