my group loves combat more than anything so we've been sticking with 4e for a while now. If Wizards ever gets on the digital bandwagon i'll prob make the jump to 5e. i'd rather not torrent all the new books if i can help it.

when playing I always play as a Human Warlord (no warlord class in 5e that I'm aware of either, which sucks).

I've been DM'ing a homebrew campaign for more than a year now for our group set in Lovecraft's Dreamlands, only with a lot more sword & sorcery than what he envisioned.

they're all at level 7 right now. seems to be a great balance between steamrolling weaker enemies and actually having a challenge when i throw something particularly nasty at them.

That makes sense. My DM was talking about creating a warlord from the current classes you can choose from. I'll have to see if I can remember to ask him if there is a way to create a decent comparison by multiclassing.

My group are all level 6, and to me, it's so much more fun with a little bit of a HP buffer. Level 1 is terrifying. Sometimes, one hit can be insta-death.

You have it with the low levels. By the time I stopped playing my Barbarian was over level 20, but I played him for years. Our whole party was quite high level when we stopped playing. Part of the advantage of playing with the same people and I guy who loved to DM and had designed a whole world including some really difficult quests is that you start to know how to work best together to get maximum experience.

We play Magic...and my brother who recently moved in with us is rolling up a D&D campaign for us (my brother, myself, my husband, and teenage son) to play together. On top of that we all play a variety of MMO's as well.

So according to my DM, he actually has the same love of the warlord. He's combined a fighter and bard to simulate the warlord. According to him, it's not perfect but it is pretty good.

My first character was a Dwarven Beastrider. I had nasty wolf beastie...and I fought with a net and spear. The DM allowed me to beef up my wolf a bit...but he gave it a mean azz disposition. Sometimes it would bite me! It was a love hate relationship...it hated me and I loved to chain it to a tree!

i've seen a few homebrew classes myself. then again i've been DM'ing for so long now i'll be happy to play my character in 4e regardless. one of our members is supposed to take over again at some point soon so hopefully!

I don't know about other editions, but in 5e, you get to multiclass starting at 3rd level, I believe. It seems like a fun way to make it your own even more. Do you enjoy DM'ing and playing equally? I think I'd enjoy being a DM, but I am too new to this game to take on that level of power. Haha

That is hilarious! It's like the Wild Magic feature for sorcerers, kind of. Sometimes really amazing things happen, but other times, you cause something terrible. For instance, our sorcerer cast a spell and had to roll on the wild magic table. One time her spell doubled damage (can't quite remember, but I feel like it was along those lines). Another time she caused an oil slick right in the middle of the fight. Nearly caused the death of two players hahah
