Has anyone tried the Flat Tummy Tea?

Hello!

Just reaching out to start a discussion on the Flat Tummy Tea. I am a huge tea drinker and I try to drink teas that naturally have benefits like detox and boosting energy/metabolism, but i had a friend try the Flat Tummy Tea. Normally I don't pay attention to those sort of "lose weight fast" gimmicks, but this tea actually promotes it won't make you lose weight on its own - it just detoxes and helps to boost energy and reduce bloating.

I've been dieting and consistently working out 3-5 times a week, and I've seen a few pounds and inches come off. Nothing mind-blowing yet. What's driving me crazy is how bloated my stomach always is though. I have a lot of stomach issues due to internal injuries a few years ago for which I had surgery and so I haven't been able to have a flat tummy since. My stomach is just so sensitive to everything and bloats so easily. I'm really hoping this tea helps not only to reduce bloating but with the detox benefits to reduce the digestive/stomach pains and issues I experience all the time.

Just curious to see who else has tried this?

The "detox" and "fit" teas almost all contain natural diuretics or laxatives. They force your body to dump water or waste, but won't help with fat loss. You might see a big drop on the scale due to the fluids and poo being expelled, but it will come back once you stop the teas. Be careful with them, especially those containing senna. Senna shouldn't be used for more than 7 days.

So, the 'cleanse' tea is a laxative. So it's basically laxative abuse in a pretty package. If you wouldn't go to the pharmacy and buy laxatives to lose weight, don't but this tea. If you would go to the pharmacy to buy laxatives to lose weight, please see a professional.

"detox" and "cleanse" are buzz words. You have kidneys and a liver to detox your body and if they aren't working, you need a hospital, not a tea.

A lot of these products are harmless ways of relieving you of your money. These particular teas, however can actually be dangerous. There's a reason laxative abuse is considered an eating disorder.

Do NOT take any kind of detox/flat tummy/fit tea if you have stomach issues, especially where injury and surgery are involved. They're useless enough. They will NOT make your situation better.

If you really want to go down that path you could just buy some laxatives, it'd probably be cheaper than "skinny tea".

always look at the ingredients, look them up and then look at their side effects. if those side effects, drug interactions, interactions for those with health issues, dont change your mind nothing will,

IF bloating and discomfort is the big issue make sure you drink enough water and with gut issues a pro biotic , yogurts and keifer or fermented style foods may help to settle things for you , I don't think a laxative tea on a tender tummy would be something your looking for

Echoing the "the last thing you need with a history of stomach issues is to be self-prescribing a daily laxative" which is what this is.

If stomach pain and elimination issues after internal injury and surgery are an ongoing problem, that's something to address with your doctor and your surgeon, not a weight loss forum, and definitely not something to be messing around with laxatives. You could easily make the problem worse, and laxative abuse even starting from a GI tract that's perfectly healthy has some nasty consequences, both short and long term.

Please don't do this to yourself. This statement from you should be enough to show you NOT to utilize something like this.

Just a suggestion: You may want to Google some resources on "gluten" and explore the benefits of removing it from your diet, at least for a few weeks. It's a big subject, but one well worth researching (especially if bloating or other digestive concerns are an issue). For some people, this makes a "night and day" difference. The book "Wheat Belly" is also an excellent resource for those who want detailed info. Here's to your good health!

I think this suggestion deserves this as well:

If you have stomach issues it's likely the LAST thing you need is a "detox" tea. Please, at least consult your Dr before you try it.

Since you have medical gut issues have you considered working with a dietician or GI doc to determine what you can eat without causing issues? These seems a more logical choice instead of listening to the marketing department of some random tea company.

Try Peppermint Tea (the regular, non-detox kind) to ease your stomach. Or Lemon Balm Tea, Chamomile Tea, Fennel Tea. But check out any contra-indicators before you take any herbal teas.

Ginger teas can be soothing also.

Tried the flat tummy tea and maybe lost an unusual 2 pounds for a week but then as soon as I stop the tea the weight came back on. Probably the laxative in the tea. It's a waste of money.

"Wheat Belly" is just as much crackpot pseudoscience as cleanses/detoxes.

...Most nutrition experts agree that the best way to lose weight is to eat a healthy, balanced diet that has fewer calories and be more active. Banishing food groups is not recommended unless there is scientific evidence to back that decision up. And there is no proof that gluten is the bad guy in the obesity epidemic.

Have you spoken with your doctor about your stomach issues? I'm sure he or she could help you manage them or even solve them, rather than you trying to do so on your own. That's what doctors are for! :) Good luck, OP.

I love this. I have tried so hard over the years to convince friends in the past 'if it is too good to be true, then it probably is'. Add to these 'fad diets' such as cabbage soup as well (must admit it is good when poorly ;-)). Most folk think , 'Well, I will just give it a try,' without even looking at ingredients or what happens when they get bored of eating cabbage soup every day for the rest of their lives :-O.

On a more sensible note. There has been some good advice to konfusedfae, and I am pleased she posted for help so she could see this advice. I hope things settle down with your tummy konfusedfae; I know it can't be very pleasant at all.

I took one before I educated myself about nutrition.

You might as well flush your money down the toilet. Laxative teas, which are unregulated, give you a flat stomach after having you on the loo for hours. You'll be all fabulously dehydrated and guess what? That "flatness" is something you can only get if you keep flushing your guts out with your expensive "teatox" daily.

Would you take laxatives for an extended period of time? Nope. So stay away from this crap. (pun intended)

Want a detox? Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables (beets are great for the liver!), lean protein, beans, nuts, real grains and seeds... Remove refined grain, added sugars, transfats, and most processed food/drink from your regular go-to food list. Drink water for thirst. You don't need that special tea.
