I don't have a heart rate monitor or FitBit, yet. I plan to get one soon though. How do I log Tabata? It can very so much in calories burned according to what I read on the internet. I take a class at the YMCA 3 days a week for an hour a day. The instructor really pushes hard and uses a variety of exerices. Any suggestions?

I would log it as circuit training.0

I know this thread is a couple of months old, but to clarify, if the class is an hour long, this is not Tabata.
Tabata is 100% maximal effort for 20 seconds, followed by 10 second recovery, repeated 8 times. 4 minutes of pure hell. Now, if you're doing a warm-up and cool-down for the other 56 minutes, fine. But if you are not gasping and nearly shaking/puking after the 4 minutes, you did not do maximal intensity.
There are many other kinds of HIIT, but there is only one Tabata protocol.0
