I want to train different parts of my body on different days, followed by one rest day per week.
Can anyone give me any tips? I plan on starting that today. I've been a cardio bunny for the last two months, and want to work on losing my weight, but not having loose skin.

My opinion: Forget a split routine where you train different sets of muscles on different days.

Opt for something like Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe (startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ:The_Program) or 5x5 Strong Lifts (stronglifts.com/5x5/)

Both are very well respected, simple programs made for people new to lifting weights for all sorts of reasons (vanity, strength, health, lose weight, etc).

They dictate 3 (non-consecutive) working days per week - so you get 4 days off.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, sometimes loose skin is inevitable. As for weight training, pick a full-body program, like Starting Strength, NROL, Ice Cream Fitness, or Stronglifts 5x5. I do Stronglifts with accessories.

I would also recommend StrongLifts 5x5 - I use the iphone app and it makes it easy to know what to do each time I go to the gym

The split program you are looking for are better for intermediate lifters, for beginners you will benefit much more from a 3 day full body program that focuses on the big compound lifts. once you stop progressing and have a strong strength base, would be the time to consider other types of programs, depending on your goals.

If you're a beginner - no you need a beginner's programme which tend to be based around full body compound moves

As others have said if your a beginner follow a routine.. I started lifting in November and after 3 months of not feeling like I was getting as far as I wanted I just recently (within the last week) started stronglifts 5x5... Already feel better about where I'm at and just overall feel like I'm going down a better path than I was
