Help, 911 Creatine Overdose

Started taking creatine more frequently in larger doses for the last week. No problems. I woke up this morning took 1 pill GNC 189 (1/2 dosage) pre workout. Felt fine until about 30 minutes later and was really sluggish in my workout. Stomach cramps and muscle soreness set in. Had two diarrheas, slept then finally got to work around noon. Still having stomach cramps, light dizziness and overall soreness.

I thought maybe I got some food poisoning from eating week old cold cuts. But then after remembering that some people have stomach issues with creatine, I researched it and creatine overload can cause the same symptoms I am having. I think the difference this time is I ate at Outback steakhouse late last night and had my steak plus some of wife's and with the creatine supplement caused an overdose.

Anything I can do to speed up recovery?

I'm not sure you can do anything to speed up the body cleaning things out. How much were you taking? I usually do about 5 grams a day.

1 tablet? So 2.5grams? That's highly unlikely, regardless of how much steak you ate, to have been the issue. It is not uncommon for exuberant young men to take 30+ grams a day because old information about loading phases talk about 10g to 20g a day during a loading phase, and if you're a young guy looking to gain muscle, more is always better, right.

Your cold cut or your dinner last night is far more likely to be the issue at stake.

Almost daily 5 grams post workout and the last week or so the additional 2.5 grams (1 tablet). Before that I was sporadically taking the extra 2.5 grams.

    So 7.5 grams daily?
Yeah, more likely something you ate.

ETA and by that, I don't mean the creatine in your steak put you over.

most likely food poisoning, which can show symptoms up to days later, and in your case appears to be ~12-14 hours or so later if it was from Outback, or ~20 hours later if it was from your week old cold cuts from the day before (I believe they have a shelf life of about 1 week).

There is a very nasty gastrointestinal virus going around many parts of the country right now. That's much more likely your problem than creatine overdose. Unless you failed to mention having kidney disease, which causes excess creatine not to clear the body.

This is my thought as well. Not sure if it's the flu or what, but I've been battling it since last week and I very rarely ever get sick. Right now it takes all the energy I have just to shower. The first day I got it I was convinced it was food poisoning or something, but that doesn't last a week. Whatever it is I hope yours goes away sooner than mine!

Thanks - I had originally packed another turkey sandwich but tossed it. Don't have much of an appetite anyway.

Guess all you can do is give it time and find out! Hope it is just a quick passing thing.

I have had issues like you describe when I tried the creatine chews. Worse actually. Maybe you are a bit sensitive to the powder in the pill.

I look for creapure or whatever they call it just because I never want to go through that again.
