If I am wearing my Fitbit while on the elliptical , do I add the elliptical time in MFP or do the calories burned get credited just by wearing it?

I still add the elliptical time if I'm trying to watch calorie intake/outtake. The calories burned that show on the Fitbit don't really count towards the calories burned with working out when you log it in. At least that's what I've noticed.0

Depends on the model.
One with a HRM should pick up your elevated HR and adjust calories for that (also if you don't put it in workout mode you might still end up with a workout log on Fitbits side from a recent update were ot attempts to auto detect). Point is, with thrse models you don't need to log anything.
One without the HR feature won't be able to track the elliptical motion and it is recommended to manually log it. You can choose to log it here or on Fitbit. If you log it here you will mred to know your start time and duration. MFP will send the log to Fitbit. Fitbit will adjust you calories burned for the time period you indicated to MFP with what you logged. It won't double count (unless it glitches and sends the wrong start time to fitbit) any calories.0 -
