I run at 4.1 miles an hour--- when I run. I usually walk a mile in 18 minutes.

    You win.

If your aim is to improve your health and fitness, no you are not a slow runner. Just keep beating your own PBs. You're in a great spot to set a really awesome goal for yourself - break the 30 min barrier!

If you want to be on the Olympic team and head on down to Rio on a few months, yeah you'd be slow by comprison. So join the club ;)

Running is running.. And that's all that really matters. It's still faster than sitting on the couch. Give yourself more credit.

I figure, I just have to run faster than any zombies that are chasing me, so as long as they're "Living Dead" type, I'm good...

I'm also slower than you. My 5k time is about 38 minutes.

I'm slower than you - it takes me closer to 35 minutes to run 5km

Running is running. It does not matter the time, put if you are persistent you can see your 5k time dropping fast. Remember your goal is this.

Because it doesn't do anything to help keep your heart rate elevated, it doesn't help you keep "form" while not going anywhere, and you look foolish to everyone else ;)

To the OP - Unless you are the world record holder, there will always be someone faster than you. There is likely going to always be someone slower than you. Don't worry about what anyone else's time is unless you are trying to win. Run for you.

If the person chasing you is catching you, then you are running too slow.

There is always room for improvement mate! Keep up the good fight.

Incorporate some hill training, Fartlek, Tempo Runs I to your running schedule

    Most importantly - Enjoy

And what if it is? We all need support and reality checks. This OP is doing great by wanting to know where he/she stands in the big picture.

Is it really going to cost much to say something supportive? No.

Don't worry. My first 5k was 35 minutes or so. I was dying. 4 months later and like 20 lbs smaller I did it in 23:30.

Don't compare yourself to other people. Compare with yourself.

If you want an answer to your question I'd say you are average
