Keeping Fit While Injured

Hi,
Unfortunately, I may be wearing an air cast for several weeks while I heal a stress fracture. I'm determined not to let this sidetrack all the hard work that I have put in to my health. I was training for a marathon up until this point. What are some exercises that one can do while wearing an air cast. I'm assuming nothing weight bearing so a lot of upper body work. I'm mostly concerned with how I will be able to keep up my cardio fitness without doing elliptical, running, or cycling.
Anyone have any experience?

So... your cast is on your leg?
I would say find a way to work out your other body parts even if it feels weird! If it's a leg injury, then maybe try something like the rowing machine. I've been told you can use 1 leg to push yourself while you pull. That can be good cardio if you go fast with lots of resistance! You could probably pedal one leg on a recumbent bike (Not sure about a standard exercise bike, I haven't tried it). If you can stand with the cast on, maybe you could do some boxing in place with a target. I'd suggest doing weight training with your arms, more muscle = more fat frying so that could stop you from gaining weight from decreased cardio.
All in all, it depends what feels comfortable. If it feels dangerous or straining on the hurt limb, then try something else
I currently have a broken/dislocated finger, I had a cast for 2 weeks & recently a splint. I was previously doing Stronglifts 5x5 but had to find workouts I can do without a right hand! I do leg machines, running, biking & weight lift with my left arm.0 -
Yes, the fracture is in my foot, so nothing weight bearing. Thanks for the ideas!0
