Cost of Sweet Potatoes

What is the cost per potato where you live? Is it worth it in the long run?

I am trying sweet potatoes roasted tonight. One cost $1.34 in my grocery store. It was a microwaveable steamer, so that may have raised the cost. If I like them, I am contemplating growing them in a container this year.

They were eighty-eight cents a pound when I went to HEB today. I'm guessing the microwaveable packaging raised the price, but it wouldn't hurt to try growing your own.

I am sure the fact that it was an individually wrapped microwaveable steamer increased the cost.

This week I saw prices ranging from $.79 to $.49 a pound. Way cheaper than $1.34.

I love sweet potatoes and eat them at least 3 days a week. It's a good veggie to buy when cheap as they last quite awhile in a cool dark environment.

    Yum. Sweet potatoes!

Are microwavable steamers individually plastic wrapped potatoes? If so, do not buy those. You can poke a few holes in a potato with a fork and put it in the microwave on a plate, no wrapper.

Yes. It was individually wrapped. I didn't look through the whole produce section. I went to the section I knew the potatoes and squashes were, so it was the only ones I saw. It was delicious and will be something I add to our menu. Perhaps even grow them. I am still curious about the prices.

I can usually get them for .90 to .50 a pound, sometimes on sale from that at a local grocery store. In the same area, at a different grocery store, I can get one plastic wrapped sweet potato for one dollar.
